Substrates for protected crops

Volcanic granulates such as pumice and lapillus are used to replace perlite and expanded clay in substrates for protected crops. The advantages they offer are an internal microporosity that allows adequate drainage and better air circulation to the roots. This drastically reduces the development of diseases caused by an excess of  water and a lack of oxygenation in the roots. The presence of Zeolite improves the ability to retain nutrients and ensures a rapid and prosperous development of the plant. In short, they are a plus in peat-based substrates.
